Course content
What is facilitation?

Edna Rooth (1997) quotes the following:

Facilitation is the method used for experiential learning. To facilitate means to give a hand, to help or make easy, by using a hands-off approach. You assist the students, not only by telling, lecturing and dictating, but by creating the opportunities for them to develop skills. By providing the structure and stimuli that will encourage students to participate in skills development, you give them opportunities to learn.

Rooth uses the term students in her definition. However, the term that we currently use in a classroom situation is that of learners, or participants in the development arena. The person that conducts the intervention is referred to as a facilitator, rather than a teacher.

Topics in this course include:

  • Outline a facilitation plan for a development practice project.
  • Consult all relevant stakeholders to engage facilitation plan for a development practice projects.
  • Write a facilitation plan for a development practice project.
  • Monitor the implementation of the facilitation plan for a development practice project.
  • Evaluate and review the facilitation plan for a development practice projects.
