Assessor Course (3 Sessions)

There was a time when the only methods of assessment used were tests and examinations. Only facts were tested e.g. did they knowBeautiful Woman with Pencil and Folder Isolated on White. their Maths tables and their recitations? Nowadays we have a completely new system of outcomes-based assessment where both teachers, as facilitators of learning, and learners play a far more active role in the process of learning. Assessment has become an integral part of learning.

FTC’s Assessor Course will equip learners with the required knowledge and skills to assess learners in their own particular field of expertise with the use of different tools and methodologies to determine if the learner is proficient in the task that assigned. The Assessor Course will assist in the understanding of the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) and the process and implementation of assessment.

This course takes place over 3 full day sessions:




5 October

08:30 – 16:30

Unit 1: Demonstrate an understanding of outcomes-based assessment.Participants will discuss the basics of assessment as well as defining what assessment is. They will also look at the types of assessment and the uses and purposes thereof. A further focus of this unit is to examine evidence that is used in assessment.

Unit 2:  Prepare for assessments

This unit focuses on the preparation for assessment. Participants will learn what the processes are and the methodology used in designing and developing an assessment tool and preparing learners for assessment.

12 October

Unit 3:  Conduct assessmentsParticipants will focus on the actual delivery of an assessment in this unit. They will learn how to collate evidence and apply the assessment tool to the evidence. They will also be able to make judgements on evidence received and understand the crucial recording process used during assessments.

Unit 4:  Provide feedback on assessments.

This unit will discuss constructive ways of giving feedback and depending on the outcome of the assessment, what further actions are needed. The record keeping process will also be further looked at.

Unit 5:  Review assessmentsIn this unit, participants will discuss the review of the entire assessment process. Here they will look at what should have happened as compared to what actually happened. The focus will be on review and evaluation of the assessment tools used.

Participants wishing to have the accredited version of the course will have to attend 2 extra full days that The Fundamentals Training Centre will organise and charge for separately.
