Jimmy Slingers joined the teaching profession in 1971 and was appointed to his first senior post in 1976. He has more than 30 years experience in school management and leadership, having studied at the Universities of Western Cape, UNISA, Durban Westville, the University of South Carolina USA and UCT. I have served as school principal and Circuit Manager in the WCED.
He taught B.Ed (Hons) classes in School Management and Leadership and Curriculum, Teaching and Learning at UWC, as well as classes in the ACE: SL. He has also been involved in the ACE: SL at UCT since July 2007.
Since May 2002, Jimmy has run a Training Consultancy with a focus on training in school leadership and management and governance and conducting induction courses for newly appointed Principals and Deputy Principals as well as courses for Aspiring Principals and Aspiring School Leaders at the Cape Teaching and Leadership Institute since 2006.
He considers himself a lifelong learner and believes that learning should be fun and the classroom space stimulating and non-threatening.
Academic qualifications: PTC, HPTC, BA, B.Ed, MEd and LLB.
He is the recipient of the Dux Student award for all-round achievement in his Matric year and also received the Director’s Award for Leadership at the UCT School for Legal Practice for Night School Students in November 2010.
